Intertextuality/ Inspiration
Bands we have taken inspiration from
The band have said that they take inspiration from the 90’s so we have looked into other bands of a similar style. We looked at other videos to help inspire us when creating our own video. A band that our chosen band said they were alike was swim deep, so watching their videos gave us a good idea of the type of video we would like to create. We also had our own ideas about the type of video we would like to create and have took inspiration from multiple bands and videos while planning the video.
Swim Deep- King City
We have took a lot of inspiration from
this video, it has a performance and narrative to it; you see the lead singer
lip syncing throughout but also montage of the band. The montage/ narrative
aspect of the video is similar to the one that we would like to create in our
video. There is multiple locations featured and this is something we would like
to create. The style and mis-en-scsne in the video is also something that we
would like to re-create, the style in the video is a 90’s grunge similar to our
band so is something we want to stick to in the video.
Temples- Shelter Song
Something that we have considered
adding into the video is projections/ a green scene; a good example of this is
in the Shelter Song video. The projections add an alternative element adding
something different to the video. Also if we were to use this when lip syncing
if we used projections then it adds more to look at for the audience.
Tame Impala- Feels Like We Only Go Backwards
This video features only animation and effects, this video inspired us when we were thinking about the effects and projections we want to use. The effects at the start are similar to what we would like to include in the projections. We liked how colourful the video was and how the saturated colours made the video very eye-catching and attractive; making us think about the colours that we wish to use in the video and how we would make the images in the video aesthetically pleasing for the audience. We may chose to do this through the mis-en-scene and use brighter colours in the costume.
Lana Del Rey- Summertime Sadness
This video helped us visualise the type of narrative and performance we want to include. This video has a narrative in a montage style that we would like to create ours, their was maybe not a very clear narrative but liked that their still was one while their was performance going on. Their was also much simpler shots simple we landscape or objects in them and we liked how this was intertwined with the rest off the video and is something that we may now want to do in our video. This video also has a filter added In post production and this is may give our video more of the 90's vibe that we are going for during our narrative part of the video.
